RE: Leaving trailer hitched

There is a thread on this same topic out there with a lot of replies to it. Hopefully you can find it so you get some good feedback but to me it seemed that most people said if they were just staying one night that they would leave the trailer hitched up to the truck. I am not sure myself if I would want to leave that amount of weight strain on the truck, plus it only takes about 10 min. (if that) to unhitch. Here you go; http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/21087658.cfm

RE: TV hookup? I have no clue.

What's the cigarette-lighter type port for? That port is for if you are wanting to use a 12V television you can plug it into that cigarette-lighter.

RE: TV Transmission and your TT

Thanks for all the info guys, it seems I have some tip to try out next time I am out there with the trailer. I guess the good thing is that once I make my turn to back the trailer up into my storage slot, I only have to push it up the slope for about 40ft. before it is parked nicely.

RE: TV Transmission and your TT

Not only is it OK you will find the 4lo applies far less stress to the entire drivetrain. The brake to gas will be much easier as you start to back up. You will be amazed at what a 2.5 to 1 gear reduction will do for you. You paid for those gears, use them. As you don't seem familiar with the 4wd system I suggest rereading that section of the owners manual to get familiar with it. I try to use my 4lo at every opportunity. I am familiar with 4hi from living here in Colorado but have never had a reason to really use my 4lo. :)

RE: TV Transmission and your TT

As soon as you are off the hard pavement you can use 4lo and I strongly recommend it to make the uphill positioning easier. Besides it is good excercise for the 4wd system to use it periodically. You can drive all day and 1000s of miles in 4lo with no harm to the system as long as you are off the pavement. So I can use 4lo even when I am backing the trailer up the hill? That slight rolling forward from the incline and the weight of the TV and TT won't harm the 4WD system when I let off the brake and switch to the gas?

RE: Tax Rebate arrived this morning

RE: TV Transmission and your TT

I have a similar truck, and the e-brake can be adjusted to hold well. I just did mine. If you are backing up in a mainly straight line on dirt and have 4WD you could use 4 low. That is less work for the trans. But that's a lot of if's. Well when I am turning the trailer to get into my slip (aligning between the two trailers on each side of my unit where it is parked) the truck isn't straight but after that it is. Yes, it is a dirt field like area that I am driving on when parking the trailer. Can I use 4WD Low in this case or ONLY if I am backing up straight the ENTIRE time? Also, is the e-brake adjustment something I can do my self or is that an item that you need to take the vehicle in for? Thanks,

RE: TV Transmission and your TT

Full throttle in reverse will not hurt the torque converter. Although it will heat the transmission fluid fairly quickly. If you can get it parked within a minute or so you are fine. Well to get it put in nicely between the other two trailer units that are next to mine it does take a few tries of maneuvering the TT back in. I would say maybe about 5 min. tops.

RE: TV Transmission and your TT

When I set the e-brake and put the transmission in Park the truck does stay still. I am just wondering from what you all are suggesting if I put the e-brake on while in Neutral allowing all movement to settle before shifting to Park, will the TV and TT roll forward or does the e-brake hold steady fairly well with all that weight? I did also try and use the two foot method because I was getting a lot of roll switching from the brake to the gas when I had my first go at backing the TT up the hill. That worked very well.

TV Transmission and your TT

I am just curious about getting some advice on a couple issues when you are towing a TT. I am trying to make it so I take a little more care of my TV. My first question is when you are on a hill (up or down) hooked up to your TT and you are parking your TV what is a good order of putting the vehicle into Park so that when you take off again you don't "clunk" the transmission shifting into Drive? In other words I have tried a few combinations of shifting to N then apply the e-brake then into Park but each time I shift from Park to Drive on an incline or downward slope my transmission does a heavy clunk into gear from all the weight of the TV and TT. Maybe this can't be avoided though. Second, when you are backing your TT up a slope and have to really rev the engine to get it up the hill are you damaging anything like the torque converter?? I have wondered this as my storage place for the TT is on a slope and I really have to nail the gas when I let off the brake in order for my TV and TT to not start rolling down the slope. I am hoping that this really isn't doing much damage to the TV. I have a 2004 F-150 Supercrew with the 5.4L V8 and 3.73 gears (Auto)

RE: Using Calgon in black water tank

Is it okay to do this procedure to your tank and then have the unit stored while it sits in the black tank for a few month's?? When you all add it to your black tanks are you just basically dumping it down the toilet to get it in unless I am missing another way in to that holding tank?

RE: Reese Friction Sway Bar

Thanks for the replies guys. I feel better about how tight I was making it and it appears that was the right thing to do.

Reese Friction Sway Bar

I have a Reese Friction Sway Bar that I use and my question is once the unit is mounted, how tight do you need to make the bar by turning that little lever? I am guessing to turn it as tight as you can but I could be wrong and maybe that doesn't give the bar any room to move on the balls. Any help would be great.

RE: New RV AC Problems

I had heard that you shouldn't even run your A/C when it is plugged in at your home but only for a few minutes as it draws to much power?? They said it will fry the cord. Is this true?

RE: Interstate 70 west of Denver

I agree with the other Colorado guys. Just a word of advice on when you get out of the Eisenhower tunnel, make sure to gear down and don't ride your brakes. If you are going East the road will look long and somewhat level but it isn't!! Same goes for traveling West but the good thing is that Silverthorne is pretty much after the tunnel and you can pull off and let your brakes cool down. Going East, Georgetown is right there after the tunnel and do the same there. There are lots of areas on the way up to the tunnel where people can pull off to "chain-up" in snow season, so use those pull off areas to your advantage if you need them during the summer season. Once you get onto I-70 going West from Denver, there will be a few steep inclines that you will have to travel and one right away that is a long incline but not really steep. Just be alert that whole stretch and you should be just fine.

RE: TV Tire Pressure

Are the passenger tires (P) or light truck tires (LT)??? I would guess with the 35psi max, they are passenger tires maybe?? A D-rated LT tire would have a max pressure of around 60-65psi. Bryan I as well would assume they are passenger tires.

RE: TV Tire Pressure

Well I went out and looked and the tire even stated that the max PSI is 35 and each tire stated that the max load is 2,601 lbs. So I guess if I just put in the 35 I should be fine??

TV Tire Pressure

So I am going to be picking up my new to me TT here in the next week or two and I am wondering about if I need to do anything with the tire pressure on my TV before towing. The TT that we got is about 24' in length and has a dry weight of about 3,500 lbs. Normally I just put in about 5psi below what is stated on the door of the the truck. I know on the actually tire it has a max psi of much greater. So in all I think I normally have them set about 35 psi. Am I going to need to worry about adding more air than that for towing or should I be okay with that setup and my TT size and weight? Right now I have the factory BFGoodrich Rugged Trail T/A 275/65/R18 tires on the truck. Thanks,

Where do you dump?

Just curious as to what people do when they have spent a few days dry camping and need to dump their black / grey tanks? If the CG that you are camping in doesn't have a dump site, how are you suppose to empty your tanks before your next trip?? Do you just drive to a CG that does have a dump and pay for just that purpose?? :h

RE: Camping with Newborn

Awesome information as we are planning our first camping trip with our twin boys this coming June. They will be about six month's old come that time so I am hoping that they will do fine. I am just wondering what we are really going to be able to do with them once we get there since they can't walk around or ride a bike. The only thing so far that I know of is getting one of those backpack things and take them hiking.
